Start date : Week of August 26, 2024 (orientation week for new employees)

Status : Part Time, Exempt, 10-month faculty, On-campus

Reports to : Director of Support Services

Job Summary:

The part-time School Reading Specialist supports the fundamental educational mission of the school by teaching reading in a variety of settings to students in 6th to 8th grade.

Key Objectives:

Apply culturally responsive pedagogy techniques to create a strong sense of safety, belonging, and learning engagement for every student

Plan, organize, and implement reading lessons that support students in one-on-one settings as well as in guided reading groups

Observe students in reading classes and discuss findings to best support individual student needs

Perform evaluations of a diagnostic and prescriptive nature and provide post-assessment reports

Participate in caregiver meetings to discuss a child’s learning profile, and instructional approach to provide targeted reading instruction

Maintain verbal and written communication with caregivers and Director of Student Support

Engage in professional responsibilities that include collaborating effectively with colleagues, participating in pertinent employee meetings, performing necessary duties, and keeping abreast of current research and practices in reading, child development, and equity and inclusion

Skills and Competencies:

Strong proficiency with culturally responsive pedagogy

Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year college or university

3 or more years of elementary and middle school experience

Experience with various literacy and reading intervention programs and assessments

Orton-Gillingham or Wilson training preferred

Deep and broad understanding of best practices in differentiated literacy instruction
