Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Reverse Mortgage Underwriter to join our team! In this role, you'll play a crucial part in underwriting residential loans, ensuring compliance with company guidelines, secondary market investor standards, and all applicable laws. You'll review loan documentation for accuracy and completeness while collaborating with loan originators, branch managers, and processors to gather all necessary documents.
Key Responsibilities:
Review loan applications and associated documentation to ensure thoroughness and accuracy in accordance with HECM guidelines, policies, and procedures.
Maintain acceptable turnaround times for initial decisions and condition reviews based on departmental expectations.
Collaborate with Quality Control, Compliance, and Funding teams to address problem resolution, risk evaluation, and compliance concerns.
Develop a solid understanding of HECM product guidelines and risk assessment tools.
Adjust loans to new terms as needed, identifying any additional conditions to ensure sound credit decisions.
Evaluate borrower profiles, including income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy documents, and appraisals, ensuring all necessary documentation is collected for final loan decisions.
Demonstrate proficiency in manual underwriting policies and procedures.
Stay informed about secondary market activity and industry practices that impact underwriting quality and origination processes.
Foster positive relationships with loan originators, management, and processing teams.
Utilize MS Office products effectively.
Qualifications:
3+ years of experience in residential loan underwriting.
DE certification and recent FHA underwriting experience preferred.
Strong knowledge of FHA/HECM policies and procedures.
Familiarity with various fraud detection tools.
Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Excellent relationship management skills with internal and external partners.
Prior mortgage processing experience preferred.
Experience in handling repurchase responses and rebuttal reviews.
Strong skills in reporting, analysis, interpretation, and critical thinking.
