Position: Reading Specialist

Location: Framingham, MA

Job Overview: The school is seeking an experienced and passionate Reading Specialist to join our educational team. The Reading Specialist will be responsible for providing targeted reading instruction and intervention to students who are struggling with literacy skills. This role involves working closely with teachers, students, and parents to enhance reading achievement and foster a love of reading in all students.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Instructional Support:

    • Provide individualized and small group reading instruction to students who require additional support in developing literacy skills.
    • Implement research-based reading intervention strategies tailored to meet the needs of each student.
    • Assist in the development and delivery of differentiated instruction in the general education classroom to support reading achievement.
  2. Assessment and Progress Monitoring:

    • Conduct comprehensive literacy assessments to identify students’ reading levels and areas of need.
    • Monitor and track student progress regularly, adjusting instruction and intervention strategies as necessary.
    • Maintain detailed records of student performance and use data to inform instruction and intervention plans.
  3. Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to develop and implement effective reading instruction across the curriculum.
    • Provide coaching and professional development to teachers on best practices in literacy instruction and assessment.
    • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and strategies to support reading at home.
  4. Program Development:

    • Assist in the development and implementation of the school’s literacy program, ensuring alignment with state standards and best practices.
    • Develop and provide resources and materials to support classroom reading instruction.
    • Participate in curriculum planning and review processes to ensure that literacy instruction is integrated across all subject areas.
  5. Student Advocacy:

    • Advocate for the needs of struggling readers, ensuring they receive appropriate and timely support.
    • Participate in team meetings and IEP meetings as needed, providing input on literacy goals and progress.
    • Support students in developing confidence and a positive attitude toward reading.
  6. Professional Development:

    • Stay current with the latest research and best practices in literacy instruction and reading intervention.
    • Attend workshops, conferences, and other professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Share expertise and new learning with colleagues to promote continuous improvement in literacy education.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Reading, Literacy, or a related field.
  • Valid Massachusetts teaching certification as a Reading Specialist or in a related area.
  • Experience working as a Reading Specialist or in a similar role, with a strong background in reading instruction and intervention.
  • In-depth knowledge of literacy assessment tools and reading intervention programs.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents to support student success.
