The Fischbein Laboratory in the Stanford University Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking to hire a full-time Life Science Research Professional 1 in our lab. We focus on investigating the molecular mechanisms of aortic aneurysm formation in Marfan Syndrome, a genetic connective tissue disorder. We use a combination of human tissue/cells, transgenic mouse models, and induced pluripotent stem cells to identify aberrant signaling pathways through single cell RNA sequencing, mass spectroscopy proteomics, and histology. Please see recent publication for an example of our prior work with single cell RNA sequencing and mass spectroscopy:
Responsibilities include: mouse husbandry and genotyping, imaging studies such as echocardiogram, confocal microscopy, atomic force microscopy; assisting in small animal cardiac surgery; Rstudio and ImageJ analysis; and cell culture. The lab is a very dynamic environment where lab members can take full advantage of the myriad of resources present at a leading academic institution. The setting is ideal for very motivated individuals who desire an active role in a biomedical research lab, while concurrently acquiring exposure to clinical medicine.
