About The Role Tanaq Environmental is seeking a
Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst to support environmental restoration projects. The role involves designing, developing, and implementing systems and geodatabases to access, store, and present geospatial data collected from environmental restoration projects. Collaborating with a team of project geologists, project engineers, and project staff, the analyst will support the management, analysis, and presentation of data collected during investigations of groundwater, soils, sediments, surface water, soil vapors, and other media. These activities support comprehensive CERCLA Remedial Investigations (RIs), RCRA Facility Investigations (RFIs), and similar investigations for the Department of Defense (DoD), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other Tanaq clients.
This is a hybrid remote position that can be located in Phoenix, Arizona or anywhere in the U.S. Position may require limited travel (~30%) supporting projects in various US states, including but not limited to: AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, MD, MO, MS, NM, OK, VA.
Responsibilities - Prepare GIS figures and maps for the presentation of investigation results data in a clear, concise, and consistent manner.
- Work with the Sr. GIS Analyst to oversee the storage and management of GIS files and databases that support data presentation.
- Develop templates and formats for use in complex reports to ensure data is presented consistently and clearly.
- Prepare and update GIS figures for documents and presentations with consistent styles, symbology, and nomenclature.
- Support Tanaq management in the development of standard formats consistent with the corporate brand.
- Work with document authors and project teams to incorporate GIS data, applications, and tools to evaluate project-specific data and identify and solve problems.
- As needed, serve as a mentor to junior GIS staff and allocate and review project tasks.
- Participate in client meetings as required.
Requirements Required Experience and Skills - Minimum 3 years of relevant experience as a GIS specialist or mid-level technician.
- Experience working in environmental consulting or related fields.
- Proficient with editing and maintaining GIS data in the Esri ArcGIS suite of products. GIS System development/experience using ESRI software products including ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online and Tools, and ESRI Field Maps software.
- Self-starter with ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clear and satisfactory driving record.
Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with ArcGIS Field Maps and Survey123 for data collection preferred.
- Experience in license management and administration with ArcGIS Online/Portal preferred.
- Knowledge/Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) Work Spaces preferred.
- Knowledge of Arcade scripting for field calculation and feature labeling preferred.
- Experience with Python scripting to automate tasks or assist with geoprocessing preferred.
Education and Training - Minimum Associate’s Degree in Geography, Geospatial Science, GIS applications, or related discipline from accredited institution; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- GIS Professional (GISP) certification from the GIS Certification Institute (GISCI) preferred; or ESRI professional or associate certification preferred.
Physical Requirements - Physically able to travel to field sites and traverse large areas by foot.
- Ability to lift and carry 25 pounds and handle field equipment. Must be willing and able to visit job sites, attend client meetings, etc. as needed.
- Travel is expected to be around 30%.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and while working on a computer.
