POSITION SUMMARY: 

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a meticulous and innovative Data Analyst to support various research projects through advanced data analysis, statistical modeling, and database management. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting, cleaning, analyzing, and organizing data, as well as developing systematic processes for data entry and quality assurance. The role involves creating meaningful data visualizations, managing data storage and backup systems, and collaborating with investigators to ensure data integrity. This position requires strong expertise in scientific data analysis, algorithm development, and machine learning. The Data Scientist will play a critical role in supporting NIH’s research objectives by providing accurate and comprehensive data services. 

 

TASKS. The contractor shall: 

  • Collect and analyze data for various studies, providing final data sets. 

  • Perform statistical analysis and construct systematic processes for data entry and quality assurance. 

  • Manage data entry in numerical and text formats and perform quality checks on data. 

  • Organize, implement, maintain, and archive data; provide data analysis and visualization using relevant tools. 

  • Create data workflow processes and format databases for statistical analyses. 

  • Apply statistical techniques to produce meaningful tables and graphs. 

  • Prepare and standardize data for database storage, perform routine data management, and database searches. 

  • Create and maintain detailed reports, draft manuscripts from study results, and maintain data for past and present studies. 

  • Manage storage and backup systems, follow data quality assurance policies, and maintain computerized files and records. 

  • Develop and maintain data management and quality assurance procedures. 

  • Create and maintain databases, spreadsheets, and data access and submission tracking systems. 

  • Coordinate statistical data analysis, develop data dictionaries, and enhance data management practices. 

  • Apply database management concepts, including storage capacity management, backup and recovery. 

  • Provide data auditing services and ensure data quality meets study goals and standards. 

  • Design, develop, and maintain various computer applications, including databases, Listservs, and PowerPoint presentations. 

  • Identify trends and patterns in the data, solve data entry issues, and ensure data validity and fidelity. 

  • Meet with data customers to assess dataset requirements and provide data auditing plans. 

  • Track and solve problems in the data entry process and perform project-related data analysis and reporting. 

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Biopsychology, or a related discipline. 

  • A minimum of one year of relevant experience. 

  • Certified Information Security Manager (CISM) highly desired. 

  • Proficiency in software such as JavaScript, RStudio, Python, Matplotlib, and MATLAB. 

  • Strong skills in scientific data analysis, database management, algorithm development, and statistical modeling. 

  • Experience with machine learning, data cleaning, and creating data visualizations. 

  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written. 

  • Excellent organizational and team-building skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects. 

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with investigators and data users.
